Biography:

After finishing the BA and M.Sc. degrees studies, Dr. Kong was hired as a faculty member by National University of Defense Technology, a top university in China. He taught courses in applied physics for four years. Then, he moved to China Academia of Science. There he developed his research interests in the areas of interaction between laser and materials, industrial laser and automation, soft X ray laser, laser Doppler and their applications in life science. He admitted to the program of Design in Mechanical Engineering Department of McGill University in 1998 and got doctorate degree in 2003. Dr. Kong has sound knowledge of mathematics, physics, material science and engineering, laser, plasma, MEMS, actuator and sensors, industrial automation, nano materials and their applications in bio-fields. Dr. Kong 's interest in research and development is in the areas of seating and mobility, planning aging and disabled people product environment, modularization of wheelchair and cushion products by using DSM, i.e. Design Matrix Method, instrumentation of laser, infrared, ultrasound and Doppler wavelet analysis technologies in the diagnosing of early stage sacral pressure ulcer, measuring of physical properties of skin and muscle and rationalizing of the cushion contour design. He also has the interest of Finite Element simulation and its application in buttock-cushion interaction.
