Health care is one of the most important issues facing Americans in the 21st century. The nation isn't prepared to deal with the escalation in disability and illness with an increase in the older population over 65 from 30 to 70 million in the next 28 years. Currently for every dollar spent on children's health care by the federal government, 14 dollars are spent on people over 65. 4 million people currently suffer from Alzheimer's Disease, costing over $55 billion per year. By 2020, it is expected that the number of Alzheimer victims will increase to 14 million and without changing treatment, the cost could be as high as 200 billion per year. Time is running out on the debate over he cost of prescription drugs and the role of public assistance and private insurance.
